Wakefield Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations.

If we have any current non-compliance issues they will be listed here.

Ensure suggested corrections are provided where applicable WCAG 2.0 AA 3.3.3

This means providing meaningful error messages that help a user understand what went wrong, and how to correct it. For example: "This is not a valid email" or "This date must be in the past".

Wrap items with the same name inside a fieldset WCAG 2.0 A 1.3.1

Radio buttons or check boxes with the same name attribute must be contained within a fieldset element.

Check if an error prevention mechanism is required (for legal, financial, data) WCAG 2.0 AA 3.3.4

If this form would bind a user to a financial or legal commitment, modify/delete user-controllable data, or submit test responses, ensure that submissions are either reversible, checked for input errors, and/or confirmed by the user.

Ensure components are identified consistently WCAG 2.0 AA 3.2.4

Check that components that have the same functionality within this website are identified consistently (i.e. their names, labels and alternative text are consistent).

Avoid linking to anchors that do not exist WCAG 2.0 A 2.4.1

Do not link to an anchor on the page that does not exist. For example: linking to #content without a valid destination such as <body id="content"></body>.

Identify the purpose of fields programmatically WCAG 2.1 AA 1.3.5

To comply with WCAG 2.1, fields must identify what their purpose is programmatically. If done correctly, this allows browsers to help users fill in forms with known information, such as their name and email address.

If you find an issue that we not yet identified, please contact us using one of the routes described in the ‘Reporting accessibility problems with this website’ section of this statement.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Third party content

Some of our services include third party content which we have no control over such as documents which are sent to us and uploaded as part of our services.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to manage these kinds of content, but if you have a problem with any of the content hosted on this website, please contact us using the methods above and we will try to help.

Video content

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

We also have some existing pre-recorded video content that was published before the 23 September 2020. This content is also exempt from the regulations.

All new video content we produce will have appropriate captions, audio descriptions and transcripts as necessary.

Online Maps

Our service includes the use of online maps to show certain geographical information. These are not used for navigational purposes and are exempt under the regulations.

If you require the information presented in an online map in a different format, please contact us to discuss reasonable adjustments.
