Keeping roads clear and safe in winter weather is important to us and for everyone’s safety.
Before you start, things you need to know:
We will always aim to have priority routes gritted before the road surface temperatures fall to 0°C.

Preventive gritting is carried out on:
A and B roads
commuter routes
steep main roads to villages
housing or industrial estates
roads leading to main hospitals and large schools
Before you start, you will need to tell us:
where you need the grit
details of your request (e.g.: which street needs to be gritted or added to an existing gritting route, the location of grit bin, etc.)
the reasons why it should be gritted or added
