Keeping roads clear and safe in winter weather is important to us and for everyone’s safety.

Before you start, things you need to know:

We will always aim to have priority routes gritted before the road surface temperatures fall to 0°C.

Preventive gritting is carried out on:

• A and B roads

• commuter routes

• steep main roads to villages

• housing or industrial estates

• roads leading to main hospitals and large schools

Before you start, you will need to tell us:

• where you need the grit

• details of your request (e.g.: which street needs to be gritted or added to an existing gritting route, the location of grit bin, etc.)

• the reasons why it should be gritted or added
