Before you start:

The Local Welfare Provision scheme helps vulnerable people in our community in times of crisis or emergency.

It is only available to people who live in the Wakefield Council District, and are in receipt of/are eligible for Council Tax Support.

The aim of the scheme is to help vulnerable Wakefield residents who are:

  • Unable to provide for themselves and need help to prevent serious risk to health and safety of themselves or their family.
  • Are in need of help to maintain their independence within the community.

Please be aware that the Council offers no cash payments, however we can offer non-financial support to residents in need of it through the scheme.

A Financial Welfare Officer will contact you to discuss your application.

You will be asked about your income and outgoings and to provide a bank statement showing all transactions, for all accounts, covering 1 month up to the date of application. Also, if applying for help with fuel costs, you will be asked to provide proof of meter readings.
